The eyes are one of the most important organs that provide the first contact in communication and give meaning to the face. The skin of the eyelids is very thin, so they are very quickly affected by the negative effects of the environment and time.
The signs of aging in the face area first appear with wrinkles around the eyes, which we call crow’s feet, and eye bags under the eyes, starting from the age of 30. Over time, this situation manifests as excess skin on the upper eyelids, ie sagging and intense wrinkles, and under-eye bags on the lower eyelids, discoloration of the skin and sagging.
This problem, which makes the face look tired, sad and older than it is by distorting the expression, can sometimes reach very advanced dimensions and reduce the angle of view, causing headaches and even migraine complaints. The treatment of this condition, which brings along many health problems other than visual appearance, is quite easy.
Eyelid surgery is not performed only for aesthetic purposes. Eyelid drooping, which may be congenital or age-related, seriously affects the patient’s vision. Eyelid surgeries are necessary for health in order to have better and clear vision. In addition, if the patient has skin tumors on the eyelid, surgical intervention may be required.
Eyelid surgeries usually take one to one and a half hours and most patients can return home the same day without staying in the hospital. In eyelid surgeries, excess skin is removed, sagging is removed and under-eye bags are removed, if any. After the operation, scars remain on the eyelids.
Eyelid aesthetics is usually performed after the age of 30 if there is excess skin on the upper eyelid due to genetics or aging. Problems in the lower eyelid; bagging or excess skin usually becomes evident from the age of 40. It is more suitable to be done from this age.
At the end of upper and/or lower eyelid operations, small sterile bands that do not completely cover the eye are used for dressing. These bands are renewed after 3 days and removed on the fifth day.
After the operation, it is necessary to apply ice for two days as recommended to reduce swelling, edema and bruises.
There may be bleeding in the form of slight leakage on the first day. This is very natural.
Pain is almost nonexistent. There will be a comfortable post-operative period.
The operation area should not be wet for the first 3 days. You can take a bath after the 3rd day control.
